Yankee Doodle Fair, Hosted by Westport Woman's Club, Underway

WESTPORT, CT — The annual Yankee Doodle Fair in Westport will be held beginning Thursday evening, and running through Sunday. Westport police have issued a traffic advisory for the event.

Hosted by the Westport Woman's Club, the popular carnival's hours are as follows:

• Thursday, 6 p.m. through 10 p.m.
• Friday, 6 p.m. through 10 p.m.
• Saturday, 1 p.m. through 10 p.m.
• Sunday, 1 p.m. through 5 p.m.

"We’re so excited to bring the YANKEE DOODLE FAIR, a fun end-of-school year tradition, to Westport again this June," said Karen Kleine, Yankee Doodle chair and the past president of the woman's club, in a statement. "Net profits from the fair will support many charities in Fairfield County, need-based college scholarships to Staples High School students, and our WWC Food Closet that works in tandem with Westport’s Department of Human Services."

The event is held at the Westport Woman’s Club, 44 Imperial Ave. in Westport, and in the Imperial Municipal Parking Lot located on Imperial Avenue. As a result, the municipal lot is closed to the public from Tuesday through Sunday to accommodate the set-up and take down of the carnival's attractions.

"Residents and motorists can expect traffic congestion and temporary delays in the downtown area associated with this event," said Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso in a statement. "Attendees are reminded that there is no event parking allowed on both Thomas Road and Imperial Avenue."

Additionally, motorists traveling through the area are asked to exercise caution "due to increased pedestrian traffic, and to allow extra time to arrive at their destinations and/or to seek alternate routes if possible."

The fair features carnival rides and games from Stewart Amusements, such as Carousel, Flying Dumbo, Dizzy Dragon, Frog Hopper, Scrambler, Cliff Hanger, Zero Gravity, and Expo Wheel, among others.
