Westporter Glenn Hightower, Former Bedford Middle School Principal, Dies

WESTPORT, CT — Glenn Hightower, former principal of Westport's Bedford Middle School and Westport Adult and Continuing Education, died on Jan. 1 at age 76, reports Westport Now.

Hightower was a popular educator and athletic inspiration for countless children in Westport for decades. He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly, and is survived by three daughters.

First Selectman Jim Marpe issued the following statement about Hightower, "It is with great sadness that I note the passing of Glenn Hightower. Glenn was the embodiment of an educator who was committed to his students, his profession and his community. He was compassionate and caring, and influenced countless lives not only through his roles in the Westport Public Schools, but also through his participation in youth athletics.

"On behalf of the Town of Westport, let me express my sincere condolences to his family and thank them for allowing Glenn to be such an active and significant member of our community for so many years."

Services for Hightower had not been announced as of Wednesday afternoon.
