Westport's Compo Beach Dog Rules Take Effect This Week

WESTPORT, CT — Seasonal regulations for dogs at Westport's Compo Beach will take effect Thursday, Oct. 1, and remain in place through March 31, 2027, according to the Westport Parks and Recreation Department.

Dogs are allowed at the beach, but are prohibited from the pavilion, playground and walkways during that period.

Dogs must be leashed in all areas of the park except for the designated off-leash section of the beach south of the pavilion, including South Beach. Regulations for the off-leash area are posted at its entrance.

Dog owners are required by law to pick up their dogs' feces.

Violations of the regulations are subject to a $77 fine.

Animals also are prohibited from Westport athletic fields and playgrounds at all times under Parks and Recreation Department rules and regulations. Animals are permitted in surrounding areas, where owners are encouraged to keep them leashed near athletic fields and playgrounds.

Because Luciano Park consists entirely of an athletic field and playground, animals are prohibited throughout the park.
