Westport's Proposed School Budget Reduced: Report

The Board of Finance sought to carve out some savings.

WESTPORT, CT — The town's proposed school budget for 2017-18 was shaved by $1.7 million by the Board of Finance Thursday, as the finance group looked for savings, reports Westport Now.

Educators had proposed a budget for next year of $115,351,346, and argued that a $1.7 million reduction would adversely affect the school district.

However, the finance board ended up voting 5-2 in favor of the cut, stressing that the state's current weak financial situation, which will result in less money coming into Westport, makes the $1.7 million decrease a necessity.
