Westport's Whelk Restaurant Has Best Desserts in CT, Magazine Readers Poll Says

The Whelk restaurant in Westport came in first place in the "best desserts" category in Connecticut magazine's readers' survey.

For best desserts in Connecticut, go to the Whelk in Westport, Connecticut Magazine’s “Readers’ Choice Awards” list says — or go Match in Norwalk, which came in second place.

Kawa Ni in Westport won in the “Best Asian” category.

The results of the magazine’s survey of its readers also gave the top award for cocktails in the state to Match (for the best wine list in the state, go around the corner to Barcelona Wine Bar and Restaurant).

Several other restaurants near Westport won awards for best in the state in various categories.

Valencia Luncheria in Norwalk was the runner up for “Best Latin American” cuisine, beat out only by Crave restaurant in Ansonia.

Tazza Osteria & Bar in Fairfield won in the ”Best new restaurant” category, and also in the “best appetizers” category. Local Kitchen & Beer Bar in Fairfield won second place in the “Best American” cuisine category.

Bodega in Fairfield won for “Best Mexican.”

For “Best Indian” cuisine, the magazine’s readers chose Coromandel in Darien (Thali in New Haven came in second place).

Elsewhere in the state, the “Best for overall excellence” category was won by Max Downtown in Hartford and Sal e Pepe in Newtown (which won top place for “Best Italian” cuisine).
