WETHERSFIELD, CT — Wethersfield officials announced the town’s annual Memorial Day Parade will take place Saturday, May 23, with this year’s celebration centered on the theme “America 250.”
The parade is scheduled to step off at 9 a.m. near the DMV parking lot on State Street and finish at the intersection of Main Street and Hartford Avenue.
It will be followed immediately by a Memorial Day ceremony in front of the First Church of Christ.
Organizers said the annual observance honors military service members who died while serving the United States while also recognizing the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
The Wethersfield Memorial Day Committee is seeking financial contributions to support Memorial Day and Veterans Day programming throughout the year.
Donations may be submitted through the Wethersfield Parks and Recreation Department at 505 Silas Deane Highway.
Committee members encouraged residents to display American flags during the holiday weekend as a sign of support for veterans and the country.
Holiday closings, impacts
The town also announced that schools, municipal offices, and the Wethersfield Library will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.
Trash and recycling collection scheduled for May 25 will be delayed by one day because of the holiday, officials said.
