WETHERSFIELD, Conn. — The Town of Wethersfield will host its annual fireworks celebration Saturday, May 30, at Cove Park in Old Wethersfield, featuring live entertainment, family activities and a fireworks display over the Connecticut River.
Festivities begin at 5 p.m. at the 533 Main St. park and will include live music, a DJ, children's activities, food vendors and other attractions.
The fireworks show is scheduled to begin at approximately 9 p.m. and is expected to last about 30 minutes.
In a traffic advisory, the Wethersfield Police Department said officers will be assigned to the area to assist with traffic management throughout the event.
Police said access to State Street will be limited in both directions beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Officials are advising motorists to expect heavy traffic in the areas of Hartford Avenue, Nott Street, Garden Street and Main Street.
To help ease congestion, the town will provide a free shuttle service between the Pitkin Community Center, 30 Greenfield St., and the Solomon Welles House, 220 Hartford Ave.
According to police, shuttle buses will operate continuously from 5 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
The Wethersfield Police Department is encouraging attendees to plan ahead for traffic delays and consider using the shuttle service.
The annual event is one of the town's largest community gatherings and marks the return of the fireworks celebration to Cove Park for another year.
