WETHERSFIELD, CT — A convenience store clerk was stabbed six times during a robbery Tuesday morning before police tracked a suspect to a nearby motel and made an arrest, according to the Wethersfield Police Department.
Officers and detectives responded to the Sunoco station at 1780 Berlin Turnpike at about 6:37 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, following a report of a robbery.
Police said the clerk told investigators he had been involved in a physical altercation with a man over the theft of soda and candy.
During the altercation, the clerk was stabbed six times with a small knife, according to police. The suspect then fled on foot northbound toward Nott Street.
An Aetna ambulance crew treated the clerk at the scene before he was taken to a local hospital.
Police described his injuries as non-life-threatening.
Two Connecticut State Police K-9 teams responded and tracked the suspect to the City Side Inn at 1680 Berlin Turnpike, according to police.
Officers found Michael Hendricks, 51, of Wethersfield, inside a room at the motel and took him into custody, police said.
Hendricks was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and sixth-degree larceny.
Police said Hendricks was being held on a $275,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Wednesday, Sept. 23, in New Britain Superior Court.
