WETHERSFIELD, CT — Wethersfield's Shade Tree Commission maps out 65 new trees and a bike-trail tree removal, the Historic District Commission weighs decorative lights on Marsh Street, and voters will decide in November on $4 million for two fire trucks.

1. State Grant Adds 65 New Street Trees
When: Tuesday, Oct. 13, 6 p.m.
Where: Lower Level, Town Hall, 505 Silas Deane Highway
What to know: The town received an extra $11,512 on its state urban forest resilience grant and will now remove 15 declining trees and plant 65 new ones, with 45 planting sites chosen and 20 still to find, according to the agenda. The commission will also take up requests to remove eight trees for the proposed asphalt bike and walking trail listed as "GMR and Marsh Street," a request for seven more trees along Collier Road at the new Highcrest Elementary site, and removals at 30 Main St., 22 Bunce Road and 276 Church St., the last for crosswalk ramps.

2. Decorative Lights Proposed For Marsh Street
When: Tuesday, Oct. 13, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Conference Room 3, Town Hall, 505 Silas Deane Highway
What to know: The Historic District Commission will hold a public hearing on the town Engineering Department's plan to install decorative light fixtures on Marsh Street between Main and Broad streets, according to the agenda. Other applications cover vinyl siding at 141-167 Spring St. and 9 River Road, temporary planters along Main Street for the Old Wethersfield Shopkeepers Association and changes to a mudroom addition at 278 Hartford Ave.

3. $4 Million Fire Truck Referendum On Nov. 3 Ballot
When: On the ballot Tuesday, Nov. 3
Where: Town Hall, 505 Silas Deane Highway
What to know: Voters will decide whether to approve $4 million in borrowing to replace Truck 32, a 1997 aerial tower with a 100-foot ladder at Company 3, and Rescue 23, a 2000 heavy-duty rescue truck at Company 2, according to the town. The Town Council approved the resolution; the town says new apparatus would meet NFPA 1900 standards and cut time out of service for repairs.

4. Human Rights Commission Elects Leaders, Discusses Food Security
When: Wednesday, Oct. 14, 7 p.m. (virtual, Google Meet)
Where: Online; commission based at Town Hall, 505 Silas Deane Highway
What to know: The Human Rights and Relations Commission will elect a chair and co-chair and discuss town initiatives on food security, LGBTQ+ issues, social media and expanding its presence, along with a CHRO letter and a charter statement, according to the agenda. Written comments go to erica.texeira@wethersfieldct.gov by 4 p.m. the day of the meeting.
