Wethersfield To Review Tree Removal And Planting Plans For Spring Street Park

Wethersfield's Shade Tree Commission will review plans Nov. 9 to remove five trees and plant seven at Spring Street Park.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Plans to remove five trees and plant seven replacement shade trees for a new parking lot at Spring Street Park are scheduled for review by the Shade Tree Commission Nov. 9.

The town's planned renovation of the park's pond area includes a parking lot along an embankment where two hawthorns, two blackgums and a maple would be removed. Seven new shade trees would line the parking lot along Spring Street.

A mature ash tree in the area would remain, with protection installed during construction. A start date for the project has not been determined, according to the agenda.

The commission will also consider the Metropolitan District's request to remove a crabapple tree for installation of a sewer service line to a home. The MDC is extending its sewer main from 283 Wolcott Hill Road to 298 Wolcott Hill Road.

The agenda describes the crabapple, which has a 12-inch trunk diameter, as being in poor condition. A replacement tree would be planted in a different location.

Members are also scheduled to review a beech tree with a 43-inch trunk diameter at 245 Main St. after large branches broke on the evening of Oct. 21.

According to the agenda, Brian Kenny called Graver Tree the following morning to arrange removal of dangerous branches. Commission members are asked to inspect the tree before discussing it at the meeting.

Work listed for November includes street-tree pruning, assistance with leaf pickup, removal of a maple at 22 Bunce Road and other work orders.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, on the lower level at 505 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. The agenda includes public comment and approval of the October meeting minutes.
