These works have all established their authors as masters of composition. Beethoven’s Trio op.1 #3, was both dynamic and controversial. In this piece, he makes it clear that he is progressing to a new way of composing, and his confident exhilaration is unmistakable. Written in memory of his brother, Daron Hagen’s adaptation of “Wayfaring Stranger” is in the grand tradition of the folk-to-classical genre. This piece brilliantly combines the themes of redemption and deliverance contained in this traditional spiritual, along with classical development and depth, to form a richly haunting and affecting work. In composing his sole piano trio, Maurice Ravel adopted an orchestral approach to create a large, powerful work that stands at the apex of the piano-trio repertoire.Making extensive use of the extreme ranges of each instrument, he developed an unusually rich texture of sound for a chamber work, one which demands a high level of technical proficiency from all three musicians. Part of the work’s brilliance lies in its organization: for all its innovations and multiple sources, this extraordinary piece resides within a conventional classical framework.

Keeney Memorial Cultural Center

Wethersfield Historical Society celebrates America250 with a new program series exploring the history of the American Revolution. All of the programs in this series will take place in-person at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center (200 Main Street, Wethersfield, CT). Admission is free for current members of the society and $10 per program to the general public.

In the third installment of the series, Friday April 24 at 7pm, Joseph Morneault, former director of historical music at the USS Constitution Museum and author of an upcoming biography on Moses Tryon, delivers a lecture on Wethersfield resident Moses Tryon and the contribution he made to the American Revolution by captaining several privateer vessels during the course of the war. The lecture is titled “Capt. Moses Tryon: Local Hero in a Global Conflict”. 
Subsequent programs in the series include historian Dr. Amanda Goodheart Parks presenting “Founding Mothers” on Thursday, May 14 at 6:30pm, Morgan Bengel, curator and site administrator of Old New-Gate Prison &amp; Copper Mine, presenting “The Catacomb of Loyalty: A Deep Dive into New-Gate’s Role in the Revolution” on Tuesday, June 2 at 7pm, and University of Maryland History Professor Dr. Richard Bell speaking about “The French Alliance &amp; the Road to Yorktown” on Tuesday July 21 at 7pm.

S.P.A.R.K.&nbsp;stands for&nbsp;Science. Play. Action. Research. Knowledge,&nbsp;and that’s exactly what the morning is all about. Students will dive into interactive labs, ask big questions, and explore how science connects to the world around them.
Throughout the morning, students will rotate through all three engaging sessions:
Snack Science: Cracking the Code of Carbs, Fats &amp; Proteins
Students will test everyday foods to uncover the building blocks of life - carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins.
From Cabbage to Chemistry: A Color-Changing Exploration of pH
Using red cabbage as a natural indicator, students will experiment with acids and bases and watch chemistry come alive in vibrant color.
Air Apparent: The Invisible Force All Around Us
Through hands-on experiments, students will explore the properties of air—and discover just how powerful something invisible can be.

This family-friendly event is all about connection, support, and showing our strength as a community. Walk alongside individuals and families impacted by epilepsy.
Vendors will be on site sharing resources, services, and information designed to support those living with epilepsy and their caregivers. Whether you’re coming to honor a loved one, meet others who understand your journey, or learn more about epilepsy, we can't wait to see you!
