The weekend of Nov. 13-15, Wethersfield High School will be presenting Performers Performing Performatively: Three Short Plays. All three of the plays are thematically tied to the concept of performance, how we all code switch and perform for different audiences and ourselves. Small Actors, by Stephen Gregg, "follows Emily, a high schooler who lies to her parents that she landed the lead role of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, when she actually only got the part of 'Servant Number Two.'" Sure Thing, by David Ives, is "about two people, Bill and Betty, meeting in a café where an offstage bell resets their conversation every time they say the "wrong" thing, allowing them to try again until they find the perfect, compatible dialogue and fall in love." And Who Am I This Time?, adapted from a Kurt Vonnegut story by Christopher Sergel, is about a boring young man named Harry Nash who comes alive as a character on a stage --- even finding romance in the process.
There will be a functional cafe as part of the unit set, and actors will be serving espresso beverages in the 30 minutes before the show, then performing all three plays with no intermission. Production dates are Friday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 15 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase online at wethersfieldhsdrama.ludus.com or at the door.
