Connecticut’s Weather Forecast for Labor Day: Latest Update

Yes, the National Weather Service still has a Tropical Storm Warning in effect for the immediate Connecticut coastline but local meteorologists say we shouldn’t expect severe conditions on Labor Day.

On Labor Day in Connecticut it will be mostly dry and we’ll deal with some gusty winds, especially on the coast.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said “Hermine continues moving offshore... Well east of what our models expected. Will be doing a lot of post mortem thinking about what went wrong but while the storm moves away I hope you can enjoy the beautiful weather! Not as nice (Labor Day) with more clouds, some wind and maybe a shower... But if the offshore trend continues even (Labor Day) may wind up better. Definitely a busted forecast by me,” Hanrahan said on his Facebook page.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said the worst of the weather will be between daybreak Monday and mid afternoon with gusty winds. Winds could gust between 20-40 mph on the shoreline and 10-25 mph inland.

Coastal flooding will be a concern during high tide. He said with the storm tracking further off to the coast it doesn’t look like a significant storm for Connecticut.

Hermine is expected to turn more to the north tonight and then take a slow north northeast track Monday into Tuesday, the National Weather Service states. On this forecast track, the closest approach of Hermine will be about 200 miles southeast of New York City and a little over 100 miles south of Long Island.

Here’s what to expect on Labor Day in Connecticut:


Coastal Connecticut:

Labor Day: Just a 30 percent chance of rain, mainly after noon. Increasing clouds with a high temp near 75. Winds gusting between 21-25 mph.

Monday night: 30 percent chance of rain and winds gusting between 23-26 mph.


Interior sections of southern Connecticut:

Labor Day: 20 percent chance of rain, partly sunny with temps near 74. Winds gusting between 15-20 mph.

Monday night: 30 percent chance of rain and winds around 16-18 mph.


Hartford and Tolland counties:

Labor Day: Slight chance of showers after noon. Partly sunny with temps near 74 and winds around 13-15 mph.

Monday night: Chance of showers and winds gusting as high as 25 mph.
