Cops Put a Wrench in Wethersfield Toolbox Theft — By Car and on Foot

Police have released details of the Thanksgiving Day caper.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Police have released details of a Thanksgiving Day chase after a toolbox was stolen from a local residence.

At 12:25 on Thanksgiving morning, an an active burglary complaint was called in from a residence on Goodwin Park Road, police said.

The complainant said that a male stole a toolbox out of his detached garage and ran to a car parked in the Folly Brook Apartments parking lot, police said. The male stuffed the toolbox into the back seat of a waiting vehicle and it drove off with the rear door still open, police said.

A WPD officer located the vehicle just past the Hartford line and conducted a motor vehicle stop and as he approached the vehicle, the passenger in the vehicle bailed out and fled, police said.

The operator of the vehicle was taken into custody, police said.

About two minutes later, another WPD Officer stopped a suspicious male running on Victoria Road, police said.

The man was nervous and sweating and stated it was because he just used drugs, police said.

He denied any involvement with the burglary and drug paraphernalia was found on him, police said.

A Newington police dog team responded to the scene for a track and canine Argos tracked an area from the motor vehicle stop to exactly where the suspicious male was stopped on Victoria Road, police said.

The red toolbox was recovered from the white sedan, police said.
