Couple Robs Prominent Discount Retailer In Wethersfield: Police

A male from New Britain and a female from Hartford were taken into custody after Hartford police found their getaway vehicle Saturday night.

WETHERSFIELD/HARTFORD, CT — Male and Female suspects were taken into custody over the weekend in Hartford after police said they robbed a major retail chain in Wethersfield.

According to the Wethersfield Police Department, the duo was charged in connection with the robbery of a Family Dollar store on Saturday, March 28, at 125 Sileas Deane Highway in Wethersfield.

• Miguel Ramirez, 57, of New Britain, was charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

He was being held on a $50,000 bond pending a court appearance on Monday, March 30, in New Britain Superior Court.

• Susette Mendes, 48, of Hartford, was charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, and possession of a controlled substance.

She was being held on a $50,000 bond pending a court appearance on Monday, March 30, in New Britain Superior Court.

The Wethersfield Police Department said officers were called to the Family Dollar store at about 10 p.m. Saturday night, March 28, for a report of a robbery there.

The WPD said the victim, a store clerk, stated a Black male wearing a gray jacket displayed a handgun and stole merchandise from the store.

The victim, police said, told the officer he was accompanied by a Hispanic female.

Police said both suspects fled the scene in a red Hyundai Elantra on the Silas Deane Highway toward Hartford before police arrived.

The WPD said, at 10:43 p.m. Saturday, Hartford police located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the city, detaining both suspects.

Police said Ramirez admitted to selling the stolen merchandise at a location in Hartford, with a knife being found in his possession.
