Food52 Editor, a KO Alum, Is Keynote Speaker at Kingswood Oxford Journalism Dinner

Wethersfield Student Introduces Keynote Speaker

Kingswood Oxford alum Caroline Lange, a 2015 Barnard College grad who is now an Assistant Editor at Food52 in New York City, was the keynote speaker at KO’s Baird Journalism Dinner, a 26-year tradition at which the outgoing school newspaper staff passes the baton to the writers and editors who will succeed them.

Lange, who graduated from KO in 2011, had served as features and copy editor and also wrote restaurant reviews for the KO News, which is the school’s student-run newspaper. She was introduced by Kate Betts '16 of Wethersfield, this year's managing editor for news, sports, and investigative journalism.

Lange, one of the youngest keynote speakers ever at the Baird Journalism Dinner, won a number of prestigious awards at Barnard and was an active member of the community. She was head writing fellow at the Barnard College Writing Center; assistant copy editor for “Spectrum,” the blog of the Columbia Daily Spectator; coordinator of community-building activities for first-year students; and a resident assistant in a Barnard dormitory.

"Through all of her accomplishment in school, however, it's clear that Ms. Lange really found her beat through her internships, all of which honed her long-standing love of food writing," said Kate Betts.

After interning at Sweets and Bitters Quarterly and serving as Digital Promotions Coordinator for Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan and a writer for The Daily Meal, Lange landed her full-time position at Food52.

Based on her own experience, her best advice to the KO News staffers: "Say 'yes' to as many opportunities as possible in college!”

The Baird Journalism Dinner was started in 1991 by KO News alumni to pay tribute to KO English teacher Warren Baird, who served for 21 years as the paper's faculty advisor. Baird attended all the Baird Dinners until his death in March 2000.
