Old Wethersfield, CT: Jamie’s Run for Connecticut Children’s celebrates its 7th annual event in historic Old Wethersfield, CT. The event takes place this Sunday, October 30. Over 700 are expected to participate in the 5K, 3k Charity Walk and ½ Mile Kids K Fun Run. Jamie’s Run begins at Standish Park and travels through scenic downtown Old Wethersfield. The event also features a family-friendly post-race party offering hot cider, cocoa, coffee, music, inflatables and more! Runners and walkers are encouraged to celebrate Halloween and dress in costume!
The race is held in honor of Jamie Knotts, who died in January 2010 from a rare type of liver tumor at the age of 5 ½ months. Jamie’s parents, Kurt and Kelly Knotts, hope to make a direct impact on families that are fighting these diseases today. Kurt Knotts states, “Not only did we want to put on an event that honors Jamie, we want to directly impact childhood cancer research and treatment. The progress we’ve made here at Connecticut Children’s since Jamie was treated is giving hope to families. New, less toxic therapies are being advanced every day, and the research performed here is shared all over the world.”
Race participants are encouraged to donate or fundraise for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Your support aids the search for a cure while easing the financial and emotional burden of children and their families as they fight these diseases.
