Firefighters found an active fire at the Pine Acres Swim and Tennis Club on Western Boulevard, he said.
The fire heavily damaged the main building, which housed a commercial style kitchen, a life guard room, locker rooms and pool filter room, he said. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the pool filter room, Dignoti said.
A scene examination was conducted by the Wethersfield fire marshal’s office, the Wethersfield Police Department and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit and the determination was made that the fire was intentionally set, Dignoti said.
