Man Who Eluded Wethersfield Police After CVS Incident Still At Large

The Wethersfield Police Department seeks a 37-year-old suspect who fled Thursday afternoon. The WPD posted two photos of the man Friday.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Local police Friday posted information about a man they say eluded police custody during the investigation of an incident at a local CVS pharmacy Thursday afternoon.

The Wethersfield Police Department is still searching Friday morning for 37-year-old Ryan Burton in connection with the department's investigation of a shoplifting incident at the CVS at 1078 Silas Deane Highway, which was reported at about 2:18 p.m. Thursday.

Police said in a statement that, while investigating, it was determined Burton had an outstanding arrest warrant for second-degree failure to appear in court charges regarding a prior arrest.

It was then the WPD said Burton was "able to escape from police custody."

Police said Burton was last seen fleeing the area of Middletown Avenue and Mill Street in Wethersfield.

In addition to Wethersfield officers, members of the Rocky Hill Police Department, East Hartford Police Department K-9s, Connecticut State Police and CSP's Trooper One helicopter responded to the scene to assist, police said.

"However, Burton was able to elude capture," Wethersfield police wrote in a statement.
While the department is actively searching for Burton, police said he does not represent a threat to the public.
