Man Killed in Wild Wethersfield Crash

The car went airborne before flipping, state police said.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — A Hartford man was killed after a motor vehicle crash in Wethersfield early Tuesday morning, state police said.

The crash took place just after 1 a.m. on Route 15/5 in Wethersfield, just over the Hartford line, according to state police.

Jose Guzman, 48, of Hartford, was killed in the crash, state police said.

A second person, who state police identified as a 36-year-old Jeffrey Rivera from Waterbury, was taken to Hartford Hospital for evaluation.

State police said it is not clear who was driving.

State police said Guzman and Rivera were traveling in the right northbound lane in a Buick Lacrosse and the vehicle swerved into the shoulder and hit a guardrail while on the Exit 86 off ramp.

The car traveled on top of it and then veered to another guardrail off the left shoulder, state police said.

The car went airborne, hit a tree, rolled over and then landed in its roof in a wooded area, state police said.

Guzman was ejected from the sport utility vehicle and pronounced dead on scene, police said. Rivera was found in the vehicle, state police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
