Rocky Hill/Wethersfield Police to Conduct Drunken Driving Checkpoint

ROCKY HILL, CT — Rocky Hill and Wethersfield police are teaming up for a roadside sobriety checkpoint operation next week.

The Rocky Hill department has obtained a grant for the checkpoint from the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s 2016 Comprehensive DUI Enforcement Program.

The checkpoint is scheduled for Sept. 8, in the vicinity of 887 Cromwell Avenue between the hours of
5 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Roadside sobriety checkpoints have been shown to be the most effective method to
detect and apprehend under the influence drivers, police said.

The purpose of the checkpoint is to reduce the accidents and injuries related to DUI
drivers and help provide safe travel, police said.

In addition to Wethersfield, supplemental staffing will be provided by officers from the towns of Berlin and Cromwell.
