State Police Offer Wethersfield Residents Tips to Thwart 'Porch Pirates' During Holiday Gift Season
Packages are already being delivered to area homes and are thus targets, state police said.

Residents have already snagged some deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
And many of the orders are currently en route to residences all over town.
And Thursday had been dubbed National Package Protection Day.

"Don't fall victim to criminals "shopping" on your front porch," state police said in reference to people they are calling "porch pirates."
Here are some tips state police are offering to prevent a pirate boarding party:

- Track the package. Tracking provides an indication of when it will arrive and then plan accordingly.
- "Signature required" upon delivery options will prevent items from being left out in plain view.
- ASK a friend, neighbor or family member to receive packages.
- Pick items up at the shipping/receiving facilities.
- Instruct the selling company to have the deliverer leave the package around the rear of a residence or underneath a porch.
