State Tournament Play to Open for Wethersfield

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Cross country is over, swimming brackets will be announced later this week and football still has three games to go, but four other sports begin their state tournaments over the next three days, with all involving teams from Wethersfield High School.

Listed in order of better seeds, here is the upcoming tournament schedule for Eagle teams:

• girls soccer (L): No. 25 New Canaan at No. 8 Wethersfield, Tues., 11/7, 6 p.m.
• boys soccer (L): No. 19 Kennedy at No. 14 Wethersfield, Mon., 11/6, 2 p.m.
• field hockey (M): No. 16 Wethersfield at No. 1 Pomperaug, Tues., 11/7, 5 p.m.
• girls volleyball (L): No. 27 Wethersfield at No. 6 Joel Barlow, Mon., 11/6, 6 p.m.

Here are the records for those teams in state championship game history:

• girls soccer: 2-1 (last title, 1994)
• boys soccer: 15-4 (last title, 2008)
• field hockey: 1-0 (last title, 1980)
• girls volleyball: no appearances
