Trooper Enters Plea In Brutal Beating Case

A state trooper has entered a plea on charges that he brutally beat a man.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — A state trooper accused of beating a man for several hours in a Wethersfield home has pleaded no contest to the charges against him, NBC Connecticut reported. Rupert Laird, 32, of Manchester, pleaded no contest to second-degree assault second-degree kidnapping and cruelty to persons.

Laird and another former trooper Xaxier Cruz were charged in 2017 of the brutal beating of a victim because the man touched a woman they know. The incident happened at Cruz's Wethersfield home, NBC Connecticut reported.
