Vehicle Slams Into Police Car In Wethersfield, Man Cited: Police

A Hartford man was cited in connection with a vehicle hitting a state police cruiser on Interstate 91 in Wethersfield Tuesday morning.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — A Hartford man has been cited for rear-ending a state police cruiser working safety detail at a construction zone on Interstate 91 in Wethersfield Tuesday morning.

According to Connecticut State Police, the incident happened at 5:35 a.m. on I-91 North in Wethersfield near Exit 25-26, with both the suspect and the policeman injured in the crash.

Police said a state police vehicle operated by Trooper Keith Dorsey, 31, was conducting traffic control for a construction pattern in the left lane of three on I-91 North.

Meanwhile, a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu being driven by a 25-year-old Hartford man, identified as Fritz Joseph, was traveling in the left lane behind the cruiser.

Police said the cruiser was at a complete stop with its lights activated while state Department of Transportation workers were working in the left lane.

That's when the Malibu slammed into the rear of the police cruiser, police said, with both Dorsey and Joseph taken to Hartford Hospital by ambulance for evaluation.

As a result of the incident, Joseph was cited for following too closely resulting in an accident and failure to obey the signal of an officer.

State police did not have any further information on the extent of the injuries suffered by both men.
