Wethersfield Historic District Commission To Review 5 Property Improvement Applications

WETHERSFIELD, CT — The Wethersfield Historic District Commission will consider five applications for exterior property changes Tuesday, Sept. 8, including the reconstruction of a Main Street barn and garage and siding replacements at a Spring Street apartment complex.

The commission will hold public hearings on all five applications before considering them during its public meeting. The proposals also include window and siding work on Middletown Avenue, a pool fence on Hartford Avenue and a change to previously approved garage doors on State Street.

Main Street Barn And Garage Reconstruction

Peter DeNegre is seeking a Certificate of Appropriateness to rebuild a barn and garage on its existing foundation at 527 Main St..

The proposed building would be 18 feet high. The garage doors would be finished with rough-sawn pine to match the siding, with a pedestrian door on the right side and two lantern-style light fixtures on the front.

The commission's deadline to act on the application is Sept. 22.

Materials accompanying the application include historic property records and photographs as well as plans for the proposed reconstruction. The historic survey identifies the property as a two-story Colonial-era house, with the survey estimating its construction around 1680-90.

Spring Street Siding, Roof Work Proposed

William Soto is seeking approval for exterior work at 141-167 Spring St..

The proposal would replace existing cedar wood siding with CertainTeed MainStreet vinyl siding in Wedgewood Blue and replace the gutters and roof.

The application materials include product information for the proposed siding and CertainTeed Landmark roofing shingles.

Middletown Avenue Home Could Get New Siding And Windows

Catherine Mangiafico is seeking approval for several exterior changes at 321 Middletown Ave..

The proposal calls for removing the existing vinyl siding and replacing it with CertainTeed Monogram siding. Mangiafico also proposes replacing porch storm windows with Andersen windows and replacing the home's front octagonal window with a venting octagonal window.

Historic records included with the application identify the property as a single-family home built in 1954.

Pool Fence Proposed On Hartford Avenue

Jason Race is seeking permission to install a black aluminum pool fence in the rear yard at 385 Hartford Ave..

Application materials show the proposed location of the fence around the rear pool area and include photographs and specifications for black aluminum fencing.

A historic property survey included in the packet identifies the house as a Greek Revival-style home built in 1924.

State Street Garage Door Approval Could Be Amended

Vito Maffucci is seeking an amendment to a previously approved project at 41 State St..

The commission previously approved raised-panel garage doors under Application 8510-26. Maffucci now proposes using Haas garage doors with recessed panels instead.

The application packet includes photographs and product information showing the proposed garage door design.

The commission is scheduled to hold the public hearing at 7:30 p.m. in Conference Room 3 at Wethersfield Town Hall, 505 Silas Deane Highway.

After the hearings, commissioners are scheduled to consider each of the five applications during a public meeting that is closed to public comment. The commission will also consider approval of its Aug. 25 minutes, hear general public comments concerning the Historic District and receive the Historic District coordinator's report and correspondence.
