Wethersfield Man Swears at Officers, Says He ‘Kills People for Fun’: Middletown Police

Officers intervened when the man was arguing with a friend outside a bar and say he also said police 'shoot black people for fun.'

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Wethersfield man is accused of yelling profanities at police and telling them he “kills people for fun” while he was arguing with a friend over money outside of a Middletown bar, according to police.

Dariusz Formica, 24, was arrested July 9 after a confrontation with Middletown police officers who were working the bar detail in front of Mezzo Grille on Court Street around 1:35 a.m.

Officers observed a verbal altercation between Formica and another man in front of Mezzo Grille and said Formica was swearing at one of his friends over money, according to the police report.

Police said Formica was flailing his arms and walked away yelling profanities and kept walking back to the area of his friend to yell at him more.

Officers intervened and asked Formica if everything was OK and he is accused of immediately saying, “It’s a (expletive) private sidewalk, I can do whatever the (expletive) I want,” according to the police report.

Officers told Formica to lower his voice but said he continued to scream profanities.

One of his friends tried to calm him down and push him away, but police said Formica continued to swear at the officers and challenged them to “step up to him” and he “kills people for fun,” according to the police report.

“Formica then began stating that police officers are all pigs and we shoot black people for fun,” the police report states. “He also made a comment about this is why officers are getting shot.”

Police said Formica continued to push past his friends to approach officers again and at that time, officers told him to move on or he would be arrested.

Formica continued to threaten the officers to “step to him” and threw up his fists and tried pushing closer to the officers, according to police.

At that time, he was taken into custody following a struggle and arrested.

Formica was charged with breach of peace and resisting arrest. He was released on a $5,000 surety bond and is due in court on July 27.
