Wethersfield Obituary: Carl Morgan, 87

Condolences to his family and friends.

Carl Eugene Morgan, age 87 died peacefully in his sleep at his winter home in Key Colony Beach, Florida on March 22, 2016.

He was born in Clay County, Alabama, September 12, 1928, the son of William Franklin Morgan and Zadie Lulu Horn. He graduated from Clay County High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While stationed in New London, Connecticut he met the love of his life, Beverly Rohde. They were married for 50 years before she passed in 2003.

In 1955, Carl began working with his father-in-law and best friend Henry C. Rohde, founder of Rohde Oil Company. He became the owner and continued to build a flourishing company until retiring in 1990. After his retirement he and Beverly traveled up and down the east coast between their winter and summer homes. They fished, swam, danced, played Bingo, and made many lifelong friends.

Nothing meant more to Carl than his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Carl spoke with his children daily, checking in to let them know all was well with him. He looked forward to their visits to The Keys or “The Beach House” that he built for them with his father-in-law in Black Point. His 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Carl, an avid Red Sox fan, always wore his Boston hat. Until 2004, he would remove the “B” in disgust but always started the next year with a new hat and hopes for a World Series Championship. He enjoyed growing tomatoes, calling and playing Bingo, and could repair anything that was broken.
