Wethersfield Obituary: Giovannina Buccheri, 95

Giovannina Buccheri, 95, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late Sebastiano Buccheri, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

Born in Canicattini Bagni, province of Siracusa, Sicily on October 29, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Maria (Amato) Buccheri. Giovannina was a talented seamstress and a member of the Daughters of Canicattini Bagni Society, as well as the Wethersfield Senior Center. Her greatest joy, however, was her family.

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be dearly missed by her children, Concetta “Tina” Lombardo and husband Paul of Wethersfield, with whom she made her home, and Michele Buccheri and wife Noemi of Chandler, AZ; three adored grandchildren, Joseph Lombardo and wife of Diana, Gianpaolo Lombardo and Michael Buccheri and fiancée Amanda and three cherished great-grandchildren, Logan and Liana Lombardo and Ryan Lee Buccheri. In addition to her husband and parents, Giovannina was predeceased by three sisters and four brothers.

Calling hours will be Monday, May 2 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield. Burial will be in Italy.
