Wethersfield Obituary: Harold Mead, 57

Condolences to his family and friends.

Harold W. Mead, 57, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Diane (Richards) Mead, died on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He had rare heart disease, Giant Cell Myocarditis, and passed away surrounded by family.

Harry was born on April 6, 1961 in Hartford, the son of Charlotte (Dykeman) Mead and the late Harry Boyce Mead. He grew up in Wethersfield and was a 1979 graduate of Wethersfield High School. He went on to attend Manchester Community College and Bentley College for business and IT.

Harry married Diane Richards, the love of his life, on July 31, 1993. He worked in IT for United Health Care/Optum and had previously worked for Cigna and Konica. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Vernon, where he served in many capacities throughout the years including as an Usher, and the founder of “Soup Sunday”.

He was a steadfast and loyal husband, father, and friend who always took care of those he loved. He had many hobbies, especially gardening and yard work. He leaves behind a large collection of handwritten recipes from his passion for cooking.

In addition to his wife Diane of almost 25 years and his mother, Charlotte of Wethersfield, he leaves two children, Jacquelyn and Kevin of South Windsor; his sister, Carolyn Mead of Wethersfield; his mother-in-law, Elaine Richards of Windsor; his sister-in-law, Maribeth Mead of Southington, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Mead.

His family will receive friends on Thursday, May 3, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018, 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Vernon, 695 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in the Rockville section of Vernon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the First Congregational Church of Vernon.
