Wethersfield Obituary: Nicholas Gianakos, 85

Condolences to his family and friends.

Nicholas George Gianakos, 85, departed this life at Hartford Hospital on Monday, April 10, 2017.

Born November 7, 1931, in Baltimore, MD, he was raised in Waynesboro, VA before moving to New York, NY and finally to CT. Nicholas was a graduate of the University of Virginia and a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean conflict. He worked and raised his family in and around Wethersfield before moving to Farmington in his later years. He was a caring, kind, and compassionate father and grandfather and we will miss him.

Survivors include his longtime companion Barbara Wetstone, his daughter and son-in-law Marci and Avy Hirshman, daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Ray Berumen, and 5 grandchildren: Maya, Andrew, and Devin Hirshman, and Skyler and Sophia Berumen. He is also survived by a former spouse, Charlene Gianakos, and stepdaughter, Rhonda Marin.

A private service has been held and burial will be at the discretion of the family at a later date.
