Wethersfield Police Out in Force for Back to School Week

WETHERSFIELD, CT — With the first days of school this week, Wethersfield police said officers will be out monitoring the schools and the roads surrounding them.

"We would like to remind those dropping off students to obey all traffic signs and regulations," police said. "Dropping off students in unauthorized locations can cause traffic and safety hazards and potentially lead to enforcement action."

Here are some important dates on the 2016-17 school calendar:

• Aug. 31 — First day of school
• Nov. 24-25 — Thanksgiving recess
• Dec. 26 - Jan. 2 — winter recess
• Feb 17, 20, 21 — Professional development/Presidents Day/winter recess
• April 10 - 14 — spring recess
• June 12 — tentative last day of school
