Wethersfield Police Send Out Winter Sidewalk Reminder
Police sent a reminder about sidewalks on Tuesday.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Wethersfeld police on Tuesday issued the following reminder about winter sidewalk clearing:
With the winter season now upon us, the Town of Wethersfield would like to remind
people of the Town Ordinance regarding the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks. In
short, Town Ordinance No. 139 states that the owner, or occupant of any building or land
bordering upon any street, square or public place within the Town where there is a
sidewalk is required to remove all snow, sleet and ice within a period of 24 hours after
the cessation of the snow, sleet or rainfall.
The owner, agent of the owner or the occupant of the building or the lot adjacent thereto
shall remove any ice on the sidewalk within 10 hours, if during the daytime. Additionally,
please pay particular attention to the area where the road and sidewalk come together.
Ice and snow accumulate in that area and becomes a hazard for pedestrians.
Lastly, all residents and snow removal contractors are reminded that the blowing,
throwing, or plowing of snow into any public street or way is a violation of Wethersfield
ordinance 139-4. Snow may be temporarily placed in the roadway if necessary but shall
be immediately removed from the public street. Snow that is blown, thrown or plowed
into the street by residents or their contractors creates an unnecessary safety hazard to
all motorists.
With this in mind, the Wethersfield Police Department will strictly enforce these town
ordinances during the winter months. Those found to be in violation of either of these
ordinances will be subject to a fine of $50.
