Wethersfield Teen Golfers Get to Tee It Up with the Pros at the Travelers

The were chosen for Eversource PGA TOUR Player Experience.

WETHERSFIELD — Wethersfield residents Gabriela Rizzo-Velez, 18 and Lilly Moreau, 13, said they were thrilled to hit the course with some of golf’s elite players at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell last week.

The Wethersfield teens were two of 36 young golfers selected to participate in the Eversource PGA TOUR Player Experience for Junior Golfers at the TPC River Highlands.

In addition to playing with some of the pros, Lilly and the other chosen participants attended private golf clinics, a Q&A session with the elite players and a dinner reception.

The Player Experience is part of a collaboration between Eversource, the Travelers Championship, The First Tee of Connecticut and the Connecticut Section PGA Junior Golf Association focused on bringing the game to young people, improving player development, increasing accessibility to the game, and retaining golfers for the future of the sport. The Travelers Championship has generated more than $33 million for charity since 1952 and donates 100 percent of net proceeds to those organizations. Last year alone, the Travelers Championship generated more than $1.5 million for more than 140 charities throughout the Connecticut region.
