Wethersfield's Gothers Gets All-Academic Honors as SCSU Runner

The award combines academic and athletic performance.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Grace Gothers of Wethersfield and East Catholic and a senior runner on the Southern Connecticut State University women's cross country team, was named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Cross Country All-Academic Team.

The individual All-Academic honor was awarded to those athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and finished among the top 30 percent of eligible runners at his or her regional championships and/or the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.

Fitzpatrick placed fifth overall at the NCAA Regionals and earned All-Region honors as the top finisher for the Owls.

She also placed 63rd at the NCAA National Championship.

Gothers placed 38th overall and was Southern's second finisher after senior Natasha Fitzpatrick from West Moonah, Australia at the regional meet.
