Wethersfield's Kevin the Turkey Relocated

State environmental officials have relocated Kevin the Turkey.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Wethersfield's resident celebrity bird, Kevin the Turkey, known for crossing the streets of town in crosswalks and other antics, has been relocated by state environmental officials.

On Wednesday at approximately 1:30 p.m. state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation police officers, at the request of Wethersfield Police, "safely captured" Kevin the Turkey of Wethersfield in the vicinity of Jordan Lane and the Silas Deane Highway, according to a news release.

"Kevin’s travels through a highly populated area had posed a hazard to himself and others, necessitating his relocation," DEEP officials said in a statement.

Kevin was transported using a National Wild Turkey Federation box to a "safe location" and released "on a Written Promise to Continue eating plenty of roots, bulbs and leaves," DEEP officials said.

Kevin became a YouTube and Facebook sensation for his travels around town and was known to actually use crosswalks when navigating busy roads. There was even a campaign to elect him mayor.
