Woman Killed Crossing Berlin Turnpike In Wethersfield

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Local police are still investigating a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident that claimed the life of a woman trying to cross the Berlin Turnpike Wednesday evening.

According to the Wethersfield Police Department Thursday, at about 8:21 p.m., the department received multiple 911 calls reporting someone was hit by a vehicle on the southbound side of Route 15 (Berlin Turnpike) near Pawtucket Avenue.

As a result, several police and emergency responders were dispatched and the pedestrian, who had serious injuries at the time, was found lying in the roadway near 1797 Berlin Turnpike, police said.

According to the WPD, the female victim was treated and then transported to Hartford Hospital via local ambulance, but she was later pronounced dead.

She has not yet been identified by police.

Police said early indications are the female appeared to have been crossing the road when struck and the operator of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Wethersfield police said the Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Team was called and is investigating the incident.
