Civic Event For Girls, Mock Election Coming To Wilton High School

The free event will include interactive activities and a student-led election open to the public.

WILTON, CT — Girls will get a chance to step into the world of government and leadership during a hands-on civic event coming to Wilton later this month.

The April 26 event at Wilton High School will feature two parts: a Girl Scouts in Government Day program from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a student-led election hosted by Ms President US from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., according to organizers.

Participants will rotate through mentor-led stations covering why girls in government matter, how voting works and local, state and federal government structures. The program will also include a scavenger hunt-style questionnaire.

During the election portion, girls from Bethel, Danbury, Hamden, Norwalk, Redding, Ridgefield, Westport, Wilton and Woodbridge will deliver campaign speeches.

Attendees will be able to watch campaign speeches, hear from community and government representatives, and take part in a voting process.

Organizers say the event is intended for Girl Scout troops from Daisy through Ambassador, as well as families, community members and girls interested in leadership and government.

The event is free and open to the public, though registration is required for the election portion, organizers said.
