WILTON, CT — A "suspicious" goat was taken into custody by Wilton police on Saturday after it was found wandering near Danbury Road and Ridgefield Road, according to authorities.

Police said officers and firefighters responded to a report of the trespassing goat and safely transported the animal to the town's animal shelter while officials searched for its owner.

In a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post, police said the suspect remained "mostly cooperative throughout the investigation" and was being afforded "all the accommodations" available to a first-time offender.

Officials later announced that the goat's owner had been located and the animal was released from custody.
