WILTON, CT — Three people were injured in a crash involving two commercial vehicles on Route 7 in Wilton on Friday, including a driver who became trapped inside a box truck, according to the Wilton Fire Department.

One driver was trapped inside the cab of a box truck, with their legs pinned beneath the dashboard, fire officials said.

Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the driver's side door while other firefighters entered from the passenger side. They then used a hydraulic ram to push the dashboard away from the driver's legs, creating enough space to free the driver.

According to the department, firefighters completed the extrication within six minutes of arriving at the scene.

All three injured occupants were transported to Norwalk Hospital by Wilton EMS and Georgetown Ambulance.

Firefighters also stabilized the vehicles, secured the scene and deployed a precautionary hose line during the rescue.

The extent of the occupants' injuries was not immediately available. The fire department did not provide information about what caused the crash.
