Call for entries for Wilton Library's annual Summer Show art exhibit

The doldrums of a cool, rainy spring have finally given way to a bright, warm summer forecast and with it comes the excitement of the 72nd Annual Wilton Artists Summer Show set for July and August. The annual rite for adult artists living or working in Wilton begins with a call for entries on Friday and Saturday, July 1 and 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit opens with a free reception for the public on Friday, July 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The exhibition continues through Thursday, August 25.

Artists may bring no more than two of their works – paintings, pastels, drawings or sculptures – to exhibit in the two-month show on July 1 and 2. Items must be framed and wired, and therefore ready for hanging. A portion of the proceeds of sales benefits the library, so the artists will be paying a commission in keeping with most exhibitions at the library.

According to Ed MacEwen, the library’s volunteer art chairman who curates all of the library’s exhibitions, “The Summer Show is always a town favorite. This is the exhibit where friends and families can see the hidden or not-so-hidden talents of friends, families, acquaintances and neighbors and see how productive they’ve been over the winter months.”

Wilton Library is located at 137 Old Ridgefield Road in the heart of Wilton Center. Library hours for the summer are Mondays through Thursdays, 10 to 8; Fridays, 10 to 6; Saturdays, 10 to 5; the library is closed on Sundays in the summer through Labor Day weekend.
