Gilmor told the Bulletin that it was a way to turn “ ‘the worst day of [her] life’ into ‘the best’ one.”

On Nov. 1, 2014, she suffered a stroke after having completed an 8-mile run earlier that day.

There was no history of stroke in her family, the Bulletin reported.

A slow year of recovery gave Gilmor the notion that she would like to run the marathon to not only raise stroke awareness but to speak to other stroke survivors.

Gilmor finished 18,578th in the women’s group and 46,008th overall. There were more than 50,000 total runners, the Bulletin said.
