Wilton Library Offers Sexting Education Program
Attendees will learn about the prevalence of sexting and the where and how of children accessing pornography,

WILTON, CT — The first presentation in the Wilton Youth Council Parent Information Series 2018-2019 will examine the issues surrounding youth sexting and pornography use and how parents may guide their children to healthy and developmentally appropriate activity. The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in the Wilton Library.
Attendees will learn about the prevalence of sexting and the where and how of children accessing pornography, and what constitutes a healthy interest in sex and when a parent should be concerned.
The workshop will be led by Sharon Lamb, Ed.D., Ph.D., ABPP and Harvard University College of Education graduate, a professor of counseling psychology in the Department of Counseling and School Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston and a practicing child psychologist. Dr. Lamb has written, edited, and co-authored nine books and has won two awards: the Books for a Better Life Award for Packaging Girlhood; and, the Society for Sex Therapy and Research’s book award for Sex, Therapy, and Kids. She is a co-author of the American Psychological Association’s Task Force Report on the Sexualization of Girls and, with Lyn Mikel Brown and Mark Tappan, Packaging Boyhood.

This workshop is meant to empower attendees to take charge as a parent and a role model; and teach how to mentor their children, regardless of their age, as they learn to be positive self-advocates while building life-skills around respect, tolerance and empathy.
This presentation is appropriate for parents of teens and pre-teens.

There is no charge for the workshop, which is co-sponsored by Wilton Library, Wilton Youth Services, Wilton Youth Council, Weston Library, Weston Youth Services, and Wilton's Domestic Violence Task Force.
