Wilton Oil Spill Contaminated Nearby Home: Report

One nearby home was contaminated by a 500-gallon oil spill.

WILTON, CT — A 500-gallon oil spill in Wilton resulted in one nearby property becoming contaminated beyond maximum allowed levels, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

An oil spill at 715 Ridgefield Road was caused when a pipe that connected two tanks was sheared after a tank leg broke due to rust, according to the Hour. The spill happened more than four months ago.

Trace amounts of volatile organic compounds were found in samples from 21 other residences, but the levels were determined to be safe for ground water.
