Windsor Author Launches Kickstarter for Debut Children's Chapter Book Inspired by Life in Dance
WINDSOR, CT — Windsor author Nancy Paris has launched a Kickstarter campaign for her debut children's chapter book, It's Me, Lilly McKee!, a funny and heartfelt story for readers ages 7–10 about ballet, friendship, big feelings, and learning to see things from another person's point of view.
Paris, a former professional dancer, choreographer, and teacher, trained at American Ballet Theatre, the Martha Graham School, and The Juilliard School. She performed and taught throughout the United States, Canada, Sweden, Mexico, and Japan. Her years in dance studios and classrooms helped inspire the world of Lilly McKee, an imaginative third grader whose confidence sometimes outpaces her understanding.
It's Me, Lilly McKee! follows Lilly and her best friend, Luna Flores, at Dance Utopia of Middletown, a suburban dance school where ballet class brings laughter, nerves, misunderstandings, and plenty of surprises—especially when Lilly finds herself teaming up with her dramatic classmate, Beanie Shufflebottom.
"Dance studios are small worlds," Paris said. "Children aren't only learning steps. They're learning friendship, confidence, patience, empathy, and how to recover when things don't go as planned. Lilly grew out of all the funny, tender, unforgettable moments I witnessed as a teacher."
The book is the first in the planned Lilly McKee and Friends series. Featuring grayscale illustrations by children's book illustrator Penny Weber, the series combines humor, heart, and social-emotional themes for young readers navigating friendships, misunderstandings, and growing independence.
The Kickstarter campaign will help fund final production, printing, and fulfillment of the book. One week after launch, the campaign had already surpassed the halfway mark toward its funding goal.
Supporters can visit the Kickstarter page to watch the campaign video, read a sneak peek, and choose from reward tiers that include digital editions, signed books, bonus content, and campaign-exclusive extras.
