WINDSOR, CT — A playground at Poquonock School is closed until further notice after a fire damaged the structure earlier today, according to Windsor Public Schools.
The Windsor Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. No students or district programs were on site at the time, and no injuries were reported, school officials said.
The incident is under investigation by the Windsor Police Department. Windsor Public Schools said it is cooperating fully and has provided available information, including security footage.
District officials said they are still assessing the damage and do not yet have an estimate for repair or replacement costs or a timeline for reopening the playground.
“Our priority is a thorough assessment, and we will work to restore the playground as quickly and safely as possible,” Windsor Public Schools said in a statement.
The district said it recognizes that playground structures can take significant time, planning and resources to replace. Officials said they are evaluating all options.
If the playground is not ready for the start of the school year, the district said alternative plans will be in place during restoration to ensure students still have outdoor play opportunities.
