Rebecca Lobo Joins Hartford Youth For Free Golf Clinic

WINDSOR, CT — A group of Hartford youth got a chance to learn golf skills Monday with help from one of Connecticut’s most recognizable sports figures.

Bank of America hosted a free Golf with Us clinic at Keney Park Golf Course for 50 youth from Camp Courant, with a special appearance by Rebecca Lobo, a UConn women’s basketball legend and ESPN women’s basketball analyst.

Lobo and local golf professionals helped teach participants golf fundamentals and broader life skills, including confidence, patience, focus, teamwork and perseverance, according to a recap shared on behalf of Bank of America.

Lobo’s appearance carried extra Connecticut significance. She became a household name in the state during UConn’s 1995 undefeated national championship season, when she helped elevate the Huskies into one of the premier programs in women’s college basketball. After a professional career in the WNBA, including with the New York Liberty, Lobo moved into broadcasting and has become one of ESPN’s leading voices on women’s basketball.

“Golf with Us is more than learning the game of golf,” said Joe Gianni, president of Bank of America Greater Hartford. “It gives young people the chance to build confidence, develop patience and focus, and experience the value of teamwork and perseverance. Today it was great to see Camp Courant youth engaged, having fun, and learning skills that can serve them for years to come — not just in golf, but in life.”

The Golf with Us program is designed to introduce more young people to the sport and help make golf more affordable. Through Youth on Course, children ages 6 to 18 can access tee times for $5 or less at thousands of courses.

Since the program launched in 2025, more than 187,000 young people nationwide have signed up, including nearly 2,300 in Hartford, according to Bank of America.

“My whole career, I have fought for young athletes to have access and opportunity, especially young girls,” Lobo said. “Golf has not always been the most accessible sport, but Bank of America is changing that by making golf more affordable for kids nationwide. I’m proud to help bring Golf with Us to kids in our Hartford community who might not otherwise get an opportunity to play.”
