According to state police, the crash involved a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox LT, a 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross LE, a 2020 Nissan Sentra SV, a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2017 Honda Civic.

State police said the Chevrolet, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Volkswagen were slowing or stopped in traffic when the Honda, which was driven by a 32-year-old from Springfield, Mass., and traveling in the center lane at a high rate of speed, took evasive action to avoid the Mitsubishi and struck the rear of the Chevrolet.

The impact caused the Chevrolet to cross into the center lane and collide with the Mitsubishi, which was then pushed into the Nissan, state police said. The Honda continued into the right lane and also struck the rear of the Volkswagen.

The drivers of the Mitsubishi and Honda, along with the driver and a passenger of the Nissan, were taken to hospitals for evaluation with reported minor injuries.

State police determined the Honda driver was at fault and issued the driver a misdemeanor summons.
