WINDSOR, CT — A Windsor beverage company wants to open a taproom where customers could try its nonalcoholic brews infused with hemp-derived THC.
Float House has filed a special-use application for a brewery with a taproom at 570 Hayden Station Road. The Town Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to consider the proposal during a public hearing Sept. 9.
The company currently operates from a 6,000-square-foot space at the property. In its application, Float House said it receives weekly inquiries from customers interested in visiting the Windsor facility.
Approval would allow the company to pour its products on-site and interact directly with customers, according to the application. Float House described the proposed taproom as a potential destination that could also bring customers to other Windsor businesses.
Despite names such as THC IPA and THC Lite, Float House's drinks are not conventional beer. The company markets them as nonalcoholic alternatives made with barley, hops and hemp-derived cannabinoids.
According to the company's website, its THC IPA is available in several strengths. The lowest-dose version contains 3 milligrams of THC and 3 milligrams of CBD. It contains less than 0.5 percent alcohol by volume, along with zero grams of sugar and 45 calories.
The company says its products are intended for adults 21 and older.
The 4.09-acre Hayden Station Road property is in Windsor's industrial zone. The application was received by the town Aug. 6.
The public hearing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 9. The commission meets in the Town Hall Council Chambers, with information about remote participation expected to be included on the meeting agenda.
The taproom cannot open under the requested use unless the commission approves the application.
