1. Windsor Officials Warn Shad Derby Needs Volunteers (patch.com) — Windsor leaders are warning that the beloved Shad Derby festival could vanish within a few years unless more residents step up to volunteer. With aging organizers, other local events already canceled, and civic groups dissolving, councilors are urging Windsor residents to get involved now to keep the May 2027 Shad Derby and its many traditions alive.
2. Man Killed In I-91 Crash In Windsor (patch.com) — A 44-year-old Enfield man died after his Honda CR-V and a Mazda CX-5 made contact on I-91 South in Windsor near Exit 36, sending his vehicle into a guardrail and rolling across the highway. State police say the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, later died at Hartford Hospital and are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage from Windsor's stretch of I-91 to come forward.
3. Windsor Committee Backs War Memorial (patch.com) — Windsor officials are moving ahead with plans for a new Vietnam War memorial on the Town Green, after a council committee unanimously backed the project and a $22,000 town contribution. If the full Town Council approves the location and funding by early November, the granite monument honoring all Windsor Vietnam veterans could be installed by mid-May 2027 near existing World War I and II memorials.
4. The_Network bassist Matt Bennett dies (lambgoat.com) — A New Hampshire musician, Matthew Bennett, has died from injuries suffered in a rollover crash on I-91 in Windsor according to a statement from his former record label. The 44-year-old bassist for the defunct hardcore band The_Network is remembered by colleagues as a talented, kind person whose sudden loss underscores how unpredictable and fragile life can be.
